Biography
Isabel Evans
has nearly 20 years experience in the IT industry, mainly in quality management,
testing, training and documentation. She has helped organisations in development
of procedures, standards and methods to aid testing of software during
development and maintenance projects. She has managed test groups, and
performed testing design and development for acceptance and system testing
of packages and bespoke systems. She has also provided Quality Assurance
Support, Release Management, and Customer Support for IT organisations.
Isabel provides services in Testing, Test Management, Training and Quality
Consultancy. She has worked with clients in the financial, communications
and software sectors. She has worked independently since 1993, initially
trading as Isabel Evans - Common Sense Quality. In 1997 she founded her
own company, IE Testing Consultancy Ltd. Isabel is the author and an accredited
tutor for an ISEB accredited Foundation Certificate in Software Testing
course.
As well as
presenting seminars and training courses to clients, Isabel has spoken
on software quality, testing and test management at conferences in the
UK and Europe, including EuroSTAR, Quality Forum, BCS SIGIST and the Year
2000 and EURO Summit. She regularly attends conferences, courses and meetings
in her interest areas. Isabel has been a member of various working parties
for the Quality Forum, including the Testing Metrics Forum and the Customer
Satisfaction Measurement working party. She is a member of the BCS SIGIST
Test Standards Working Party, currently developing the non-functional
testing standard.
She taught
in a UK Middle School for 4 years, working with children of a wide variety
of backgrounds and abilities. She has also trained adults, in quality
management, project management, testing and documentation skills. Isabel
read for her degree and postgraduate qualification as a mature student,
and before that worked as a lab technician, a cook and as a programmer/tester.

Software
Testing: Development of procedures, standards and methods to aid testing
of software during development and maintenance projects, which may be
based on the national and international standards. Test group management
and consultancy. Testing design and development for acceptance and system
testing of packages and bespoke systems. On going development in management,
control and design of test in legacy and new technology areas by project
and by involvement in interest groups.
Quality
Management: Design, initiation and implementation of quality programmes,
including company wide quality improvement initiatives, Quality Management
Systems compliant with the international standard ISO9000. Design and
development of standards associated with a Quality Management System.
Independent review or quality audit of projects, plus work with groups
and individuals on attitudes to quality improvement. Within IE Testing
Consultancy Ltd, Isabel uses the Business Excellence Model to provide
self-assessment measures for the company.
Training:
Development and presentation of lectures, seminars, group and individual
work. Courses designed, developed and presented include Quality Management,
Walkthrough/review, Software Testing, Project Management. Author of an
ISEB Accredited training course "Foundation Certificate in Software
Testing" and ISEB accredited tutor for the "Foundation Certificate
in Software Testing" course. With Software Futures Ltd, helped to
develop a UML testing course.
Recent
projects as an independent

2000
- 2001 Data Migration: Isabel advised, managed and trained in
the areas of migration testing, implementation planning and controls
for a major multi-stage migration. This included writing and implementing
the testing and implementation strategies, reviews and audits, skills
transfer, management, metrics and controls.

- 1999 Training provision and quality improvement consultancy
in a variety of organisations, including the ISEB Foundation Certificate
in Software Testing, Testing Basics training, Aid with quality improvement
programmes.

Services consolidation programme: Isabel was the test and quality
consultant to the project manager, providing quality and process
improvement information, as well as devising the overall test strategy
for a multi-project programme.

1998 Software maintenance team: Isabel provided a series of
half day workshops covering quality management, estimation, risk
assessment and project management fundamentals for a group of team
leaders, analysts and programmers working in software maintenance.

Data migration: Isabel was part of the customer team for a data
migration where IBM was a software supplier. She planned and co-ordinated
the migration dress rehearsals and live run. She also provided consultancy
to the user test team on acceptance test criteria for the new system.
She liased with audit and compliance as well as with the internal
and external suppliers and customers.

(UK) Ltd, Innate Management Systems Ltd, Ingenuity Unlimited, Recognition
Systems Ltd, AT&T Istel, Spirax Sarco Ltd, Armature, Crisp Computing.
During this period, Isabel co-developed the Test Assessment Programme
(TAP) with Richard Warden of Software Futures Ltd. This is a test process
maturity measurement based on CMM.
